Dr. Macey's Group

Paul M. Macey, Ph.D., is a neuroscientist who has worked at UCLA since 1999. He is an Associate Professor of Nursing, and serves in the School of Nursing Administration as Director of Information Technology and Innovation. Dr. Macey completed a degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, where he focused on bringing engineering approaches to the analysis of breathing signals recorded from infants during sleep. He started at UCLA in a post-doctoral position in the Department of Neurobiology, and continued as an Associate Researcher. Dr. Macey then joined the School of Nursing and Brain Research Institute as a faculty member. Dr. Macey teaches in the undergraduate Nursing program, and serves on various faculty committees.

Fernando Martinez Project Director

Fernando Martinez serves as the Project Director for OSA Brain Research at the UCLA School of Nursing. He has worked as research staff on projects to develop and test culturally appropriate intervention models for American Indian/Alaska Native populations. The areas of research include OSA, neuroscience, cancer symptom management, cancer screening and prevention, diabetes, and tribal home visiting programs. Fernando also serves as the administrator for the T32 Predoctoral and Postdoctoral Fellowship in Vulnerable Populations/Health Disparities.

Amrita Pal, PhD

Amrita Pal is a post-doctoral scholar at the UCLA School of Nursing. Her research interests includes detection of psychophysiological markers in cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases for treatment and prognosis using neuroimaging and physiology based techniques.
